POCATELLO — The Pocatello Women’s Correctional Center inmate taken to Portneuf Medical Center after she was found unconscious in her cell last Wednesday has died.

She has been identified as Cheryl Ann Spellmeyer, 48, formerly of Twin Falls.

Detectives are investigating her death as an apparent suicide. Spellmeyer was found in her cell about 10:02 a.m. with apparent self-inflicted ligature marks around her neck, according to prison authorities.

PWCC staff immediately initiated life-saving procedures and called for paramedics. They transported Spellmeyer to Portneuf Medical Center, where she remained in intensive care until she was pronounced dead Saturday at 3:10 p.m.

Spellmeyer’s criminal record includes convictions in Twin Falls County for first degree robbery, attempted robbery, forgery and driving under the influence. She would have been eligible to be considered for parole on Sept. 18, 2012 and would have completed her full term on March 17, 2020.
